Understanding the start-stop technique
An educational overview of a well-known arousal-awareness approach.
Moderate evidence · Review status: NOT_REVIEWED
The start-stop approach involves pausing stimulation before reaching very high arousal, letting arousal settle somewhat, and then continuing.
The goal is to build awareness of your arousal levels, not to hit a target time. It's often practised alone first, without pressure. Results vary from person to person.
